Hello. Zara here. I am 17 and I am a student at the Lycee Moderne de l’Amitie (LMA). I come from a village 53 kilometers from the LMA. Due to the terrorist violence, my family had to flee our village. We live in a camp for internally displaced persons in Ouahigouya.
Our school canteen is essential to the education and wellbeing of us students. The noon meal allows us to focus on our studies. For many of us, there is only one meal a day in the camp; and our parents are unable to pay for our noon meal.
At the canteen, we share in serving each other in a collective manner. We eat together and exchange experiences and information from class. This reinforces our spirit of camaraderie. Without the canteen, we students who have fled violence in our villages and live in camps would only have an evening meal.
Speaking for my fellow students at the LMA, we wish to express our most sincere appreciation to Global NEEED Burkina and Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund for your invaluable support. We thank you profoundly and hope that peace will be re-established in Burkina Faso.
