From childhood rivals to in-laws, these lifelong friends are still playing baseball together at 70.
In 1964, Mantang, Weixiang, Yonggan, and Xuewang were four young boys attending Datong and Zhudong Elementary Schools. They played on their junior baseball teams and were fierce rivals on the field, always trying to outdo one another.
Decades passed, and life’s twists and turns brought them together in an unexpected way—they became in-laws. Now in their 70s, these lifelong friends have returned to the game that shaped their childhoods, wearing the jerseys of the Zhudong Pirates and stepping back onto a familiar baseball field.
From teasing and competing as children to playing side by side and cheering each other on in later years, their bond has grown deeper with time. Like fine wine, it has matured and strengthened, becoming richer and more meaningful. Every swing of the bat and every shared laugh on the field is a reminder of a friendship that has endured, transcending rivalry, family ties, and time itself.
