Help Buy a Vehicle for Lifesaving Cancer Rides

There are moments when an organization realizes just how much one vehicle can mean.

Recently, our transportation vehicle was involved in an accident while our driver was traveling alone. No children or families were being transported at the time of the accident. Thankfully, our driver was safe, but the vehicle was seriously damaged and is no longer available for our transportation program.

For our organization, this has created an urgent challenge: how do we continue making sure children and teenagers with cancer can get to their medical appointments and treatments?

For more than a decade (+13 years), Manos Unidas por Coatzacoalcos A.C. has provided free transportation to children and adolescents with cancer who live in underserved communities in southern Veracruz, Mexico. Many of the families we serve travel long distances to reach the hospital, and for some, paying for regular transportation is simply not an option.

Our vehicle was more than a means of transportation. It was the way children reached treatment.

The need has not stopped

Cancer treatment does not wait for an organization to replace a vehicle.

Hospital appointments, chemotherapy sessions, medical evaluations, and follow-up visits continue to take place. Families continue to need a safe and reliable way to travel.

We are doing everything we can to continue supporting the children while we work toward replacing the vehicle. We are using available transportation alternatives when possible, but these options are more difficult to coordinate and can significantly increase the cost of maintaining the service.

They also do not provide the reliability and flexibility that our own vehicle allows us to offer.

That is why replacing our vehicle has become an urgent priority.

Help us put lifesaving rides back on the road

Our goal is to acquire a reliable vehicle that will allow us to restore and strengthen our transportation service and continue providing these rides free of charge.

Every donation brings us closer to that goal.

A contribution to this project does not simply help purchase a vehicle. It helps make possible another trip to the hospital, another treatment reached, another safe journey home, and another family that does not have to face the additional burden of finding and paying for transportation.

For a child with cancer, getting to treatment should not depend on whether their family can afford the journey.

We lost our vehicle. We cannot afford to lose the rides.
