The vision for our new Medical Stores Facility is officially moving from plans on paper to shovels in the ground. A major milestone this month was a professional study of the site’s soil. The results showed that the ground is softer than expected, which means it cannot yet support the weight of a heavy medical warehouse. To address this issue, the construction team will add extra steel reinforcements and a specialized, thickened foundation. This necessary step to prepare the site is an investment that will guarantee that the building—and the life-saving medicine inside—will remain safe and stable for decades. After the important site preparation is completed, the building footprint will be marked on the site and construction will commence.
In our next report, we hope to have pictures of the foundation and building walls. As with all of the American Partners' projects, we want to thank our donors who are helping to make steady progress in improving healthcare in Mwandi, Zambia.
