We’re excited to let you know the final report for the Canadian Violence Link Conference is ready and available for you to download.
In all, 204 delegates attended the conference (164 women and 40 men) representing 10 sectors.
Attendees identified the most urgent issues that we need to address related to the link between violence against animals and humans and talked about the challenges they face to get this issue recognized and discussed. They committed to work with local and provincial/territorial governments to help elevate the profile of the violence link and to establish sufficient resources to do the work.
It was apparent there this is a need for continued education across sectors on how to recognize the links between interpersonal violence and animal cruelty.
Delegates committed to sharing everything that they learned at the conference with their respective organizations and CFHS is looking at local and regional information sharing networks and opportunities in the lead-up to the next Canadian Violence Link Conference.
One of the groups with the highest representation were police forces from right across Canada. A working group has been established to create changes in law enforcement databases that will allow them to capture and report animal abuse information. We are supporting the design and delivery of training about the violence link to all levels of law enforcement in Canada.
Through your support the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies is actively meeting with the major Canadian stakeholders, including Federal government departments, who can help advance the work.
Our goal is to get the Canadian Violence Link Coalition in place as quickly as possible so that it can tackle the issues that have been brought up, that If addressed, will lead to a social safety net that includes animals. Your support helps us move forward on this critical work.
