Nurses for Night Care

Dear friend, 

Thanks to your support we provided 19,440 hours of night nursing care in 2020!

Irish Hospice Foundation is the only free at-home Night Nursing service for patients suffering from non-cancer diseases. That’s everything from dementia, to heart disease. This service provides nursing care, practical support and reassurance for the person and for their families in the last days of their life. This service is provided free of charge by Irish Hospice Foundation and was established in 2006.

Since Coronavirus, more people want to spend their final days at home. Visiting restrictions in hospitals have led to an increase in demand for our Nurses for Night Care service. Your generosity made sure we could reach them all.

Funded by your generosity, our Nurses for Night Care keep grateful families together until the very end.  Nurse Aoife tells how the precious moments you make possible in those final days and nights can become treasured memories…

"There are moments of pure joy, even laughter when families are all together in those final nights” says Aoife. She tells of a family who were losing their Mam…“She had eight grown-up children. They all wanted to be with her when she drew her final breath. They were around her, sharing stories and happy memories. It was so special for them all to be there around her bed, just as she would have wanted".

Last year, your gifts made moments like this possible for over 800 families in Ireland, providing a total of 2,438 nights of home care for patients at the end of their life.
