Your support improved nutrition for children

By Justina George | Program Officer

Severe child malnutrition remains one of the most urgent but preventable threats facing vulnerable households in Lagos. Many families arrive at our nutrition program at a point of crisis, when a child’s growth has stalled over time, strength has faded, and hope feels distant.

One of our beneficiary, Damilare’s, reflects this reality. At under two years old, he was unable to walk, visibly underweight, and clinically diagnosed with severe malnutrition. His condition placed him at high risk of long-term developmental damage. His mother described feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about whether her child would survive.

Through referal from one of our partner Primary health care centre, Damilare was enrolled into the program, where he recieved food support, micronutrient supplementation, and continuous monitoring by trained nutritionists. Equally important, his mother received practical education on feeding, meal planning, and child nutrition therby ensuring that recovery extended beyond clinical support into the home environment.

Over time, Damialare’s condition stabilized. His strength improved, weight increased, and mobility returned. Today, he is active, healthy, and meeting developmental milestones appropriate for his age. This outcome demonstrates the effectiveness of combining nutrition treatment with household-level education. It also reinforces a critical insight from our work: saving a child’s life requires not only food, but knowledge, follow-up, and consistent support.

Your contribution made this recovery possible and continues to ensure that children like Damilare are not defined by hunger, but by the opportunity to grow, thrive, and live fully.

Thank you for your support.
