"Ofarim" - School for Autistic Children

Dear donators and supporters,

The Ofarim school continues to run as usual despite the difficult situation in Israel. We build a safe and calm environment for our special education students. The team tries to prepare experiential lessons with lots of songs, dances and joy.

We also renovated a new yard. In the yard there are swings, a climbing wall and slides, running and jumping tracks. The students go down to the yard with a lot of joy.

Our paramedical team underwent additional training regarding containment and communication with the students during difficult times such as expressing feelings through symbols or gestures, going down to shelters during practice, making inventions in a closed space for a long time with the help of objects and games to which the child is attached to.

The school management tries to maintain a correct academic lessons and classes are carried out as usual. The staff goes through a daily briefing at the beginning of each day. The administration is in close contact with a security officer who makes sure every day that the situation allows learning at the school.

We are celebrating Hanukkah and our students performed in a show initiated on by our great music teacher Raya Turkin.

She combined students from different classes and adapted dances for different children.

The show was spectacular and happy with lights and music and finally the lighting of the first candle of Hanukkah.

Hanukkah is a holiday of miracles, a holiday that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. We wish all the people of Israel and all the people in the world to win miracles and see only the good!

Nahum Bloch, school principal,  and the professional team worked several weeks before the start of the summer camp on various activities for the students for the summer. Our school is open until August 15 and runs a summer camp in the summer months. The summer camp includes various activities such as pools, trips, ice creams and creations around the school. The upcoming weeks would be a whirlwind of learning, laughter, and incredible experiences that would leave a lasting impact.

Summer school wasn't confined to four walls. The great outdoors became our playground for exploration. Nature walks, scavenger hunts, and outdoor science experiments exposed us to the wonders of the natural world.

Art and creativity took center stage in our summer journey. The creative arts and crafts sessions allowed us to unleash our inner artists, expressing ourselves through painting, sculpting, and crafting.

The summer reading program encouraged us to immerse ourselves in captivating stories, sparking that brought characters and settings to life. We transformed our love for literature into tangible projects, from dramatic reenactments to crafting visual representations of our favorite tales.

Cooking up a storm in the kitchen was an unexpected delight. Our culinary creations extended beyond the realm of taste, teaching   about nutrition, teamwork, and the science behind our favorite dishes. From concocting vibrant smoothies to adorning cupcakes like miniature works of art, the kitchen turned into a hub of both learning and deliciousness.

Music and rhythm became our universal language. We explored various musical instruments, sang along to our favorite tunes. The power of music to connect emotions and express our inner selves became evident, and there was a harmony we created together.

The highlight of our summer adventure was the opportunity to meet experts from different fields like drama and cooking. Their insights and stories inspired us, showing us a lot of knowledge we were gaining. 

 What began as a classroom endeavor had transformed into an unforgettable adventure of learning and growth. The friendships that pupils made, the skills they acquired, and the memories they collected were treasures that would stay with them forever.
