Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a developmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, behavior, and sensory processing. It encompasses a wide range of symptoms and severity levels, hence the term spectrum. Individuals with autism may have challenges in areas such as verbal and nonverbal communication, understanding social cues, adapting to changes in routines, and managing sensory sensitivities.Autism affects each person differently, with some individuals displaying exceptional abilities in certain areas, such as mathematics or music. Early diagnosis and appropriate support can significantly improve outcomes and quality of life for individuals with autism.
A school year for students in Ofarim schools, which cater to students on the spectrum, can be particularly challenging and personalized for each student. Here is a summary on the subject:
During the school year, students in special education schools receive education tailored to their specific needs. The curriculum may include a wide range of
academic and functional areas, such as reading, writing, mathematics, sciences, and additional unique subjects like communication and social skills.
These studies are conducted in a way that provides students with personal learning abilities and maximal success. Teachers and educational staff focus on
developing each student's strengths and supporting their individual needs, emphasizing empowerment and promoting personal success. The school year for
students in Oferim schools is a year of personal growth and diverse learning, uniquely suited to each student's needs, promoting their success in academic and social environments. In addition to academic studies, students also receive support in developing functional skills such as communication, daily living skills, and social orientation, as
well as physical and motor skills. For instance, trips and outings to public spaces such as national parks, museums, or other historical and cultural sites expand their knowledge and experience in a variety of subjects. Activities like baking and cooking provide students with the opportunity to learn fundamental cooking and baking skills while maintaining their health and safety. Students participate in theater productions and musical performances aimed at developing their artistic expression and boosting self- confidence. Students learn to engage in social games that enhance their cooperation, communication, and social skills.
These activities not only provide students with rich social and cultural experiences but also promote their social, personal, and communicative functioning. Thanks to the integration of these activities with academic studies, students in Ofarim schools can feel accepted and valued, achieving significant personal and social success in their environment.
