It is always a feeling of fulfilment when you have a dream and the universe paves for it to be actualized.
This is the story of Anne, an OMLA Fellow from Ghana. Growing up she had always dreamt of a chance to one day be part of an international development body so she had always been on the lookout for opportunities to develop herself to fit for purpose. She was so excited when OMLA selected her to be part of the first cohort. Moreso, being the only applicant selected from Ghana gave her so much joy.
The training and experiences received from OMLA broadened her horizons she said. Through the training, she was able to build a healthy relationship that expanded her knowledge and mindset and also, expand her view of the world. Having done all the background work and gained a lot of support from the authorities in charge of communities in Ghana where she chose to work, she enlisted 50 other young persons that are passionate about change in their communities and trained them as OMLA Stars to become leaders and change agents in Africa, starting from their communities.
Anne with her OMLA Stars was funded through the OML program in Africa to execute two community projects. The first was carried out at the SDA Teacher training college in Koforidua, where 1,500 students were taught and equipped with entrepreneurship and vocational skills such as Soap making, body powder, washing powder, liquid soaps, and shower gel. The project focused on promoting skills development in the youth while in tertiary school which will help them prepare for the future of work and reduce the unemployment rate in Ghana and Africa by building successful young entrepreneurs and helping them discover their innovations.
The second project was on a campaign against domestic violence and child abuse in the Manson Akroso municipality of the Eastern region of Ghana where more than 500 women in 4 communities benefitted.
Now, through this One Million Leaders Africa – OMLA program, Anne and her OMLA Stars have been able to save about 1500 young Africans from slavery of unemployment and poverty because they can earn money to take care of their basic needs by working with the skills they have been empowered with, while 500 African women and children have been rescued from the menace of domestic violence and child abuse.
One Million Leaders Africa is on a mission to raise One Million Leaders in Africa by 2030!
