Lebanon has been particularly hard hit by the COVID pandemic and movement was completely restricted in the first two months of 2021.
The kindergarten could not open during this time, so teachers had to do their best in connecting with the children at home.
Restrictions are slowly being eased at the beginning of March and students will resume the rota system of combining study from home and at school.
We were able to send funds to provide the teachers with tablets to be used for teaching both in school and online.
Naturally the situation is causing additional problems for children already affected by the trauma of displacement, but the school is addressing these issues and prioritising children who show increased anxiety.
As soon as the situation allows the program will resume staff training on peace education techniques including trauma recovery through art, dialogue and communication with students and parents, child rights and conflict resolution, gender equality etc.
Parent meetings on a monthly basis will also provide time for discussions on issues pertaining to student needs.
They all look forward to resuming some normality because as one mother said that the kindergarten is important to give her daughter an opportunity to socialise. “We don’t socialise at home because of the problems of security when going out alone.”
Thank you for your support to provide the children with tablets for learning however the situation allows.
