The 2025 Boys League in Kumba was a resounding success, advancing Open Field’s mission to reduce juvenile delinquency through sport-based youth development. Staff developed a comprehensive tournament curriculum emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and community engagement, aligning with the event’s central theme: “Reduce Juvenile Delinquency among Boys by Fostering Teamwork, Discipline, and Community Engagement.”
In the lead-up to the tournament, Open Field hosted coordination meetings with coaches and aired radio programs to raise community awareness about the tournament and the broader impact of Open Field's work. A total of eight teams registered: Legend Football Academy, Gunners K Town, Young Stars, Waspito FC, Victoria FC, Kosala Strikers, Bonakama FC, and Buea Road FC. A pre-tournament survey was conducted to establish a baseline for measuring impact.
The tournament officially launched on February 2025, with Gunners K Town taking on Waspito FC at G.P.S Kumba Town School Field. Over three months, the teams competed in spirited matches, culminating in semifinal appearances by Young Stars, Legend Football Academy, Waspito FC, and Gunners K Town. In the final on April 20, Gunners K Town claimed their second consecutive championship in a thrilling match against Young Stars.
A post-tournament survey was conducted, and Open Field is currently evaluating results and using findings to plan the upcoming Girls Tournament. The Boys League proved to be an effective platform for positive youth development and community engagement in Cameroon.
