Summary

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation believes all living beings deserve healthy, happy lives. To actualize this vision, Orchards for Animals plants fruit trees as sources of nourishment, joy, and comfort for rescued animals. Fruit trees provide food, shade, enrichment, habitat, and beauty for animals living in sanctuaries, helping them lead peaceful, fulfilling lives. Our mission to plant fruit trees where they are most needed includes all living beings - human and animal alike!

Challenge

Animal agriculture is devastatingly cruel to farm animals. Sanctuaries offer rescued animals a place to live out their natural lives in peace, receiving the care and kindness they deserve. Yet, caring for animals is hard and expensive work. One way to alleviate some of the costs associated with their care is by growing high-quality food on-site. Orchards are particularly effective, offering some of the most nutrient-dense and tasty food sources for rescued farm animals.

Solution

Fruit and nut trees provide healthy, organic, fresh, and FREE food for rescued farm animals. This reduces the high costs of purchasing such food, allowing sanctuaries to redirect funds toward essential needs like staff and veterinary care. Orchards also enhance sanctuary environments, creating multifunctional spaces where animals can relax, find nourishment, and enjoy shade and play areas. Everything we love about fruit trees for ourselves, we also love for animals!

Long-Term Impact

Fruit trees are a long-term investment in the health and well-being of animals at sanctuaries. Unlike annual crops, fruit trees grow and produce food for decades, ensuring sanctuaries save on food costs and build resilience over time. Caring for rescued animals is a full-time, all-encompassing commitment. These orchards help ease the burden on the passionate individuals dedicating their lives to these animals, while creating safe, beautiful, and joyful spaces for the animals to thrive in.
