Dear friends,
We're excited to share our ongoing efforts to bring the benefits of fruit trees to Ugandan families and farmers. This month, we're gearing up to plant and propagate seedlings in our Uganda nurseries during the upcoming rainy season.
Our dedicated team, led by Uganda Program Manager Edward and Nursery Manager Musa (centered in yellow and white in the above photo), is all set to oversee the planting of thousands of seeds. They'll also manage watering and care schedules to ensure the growth of strong, healthy saplings over the coming months.
The planting will kick off in September when the semi-annual rains arrive, providing the perfect conditions to kickstart these trees. To address the unpredictability of climate change, we've also installed rain catchment tanks and irrigation systems, ensuring we're ready for varying weather patterns that are unfortunately becoming more common.
Planting trees is a powerful solution to combat this climate change. And when those trees bear fruit, the impact is even greater. Farmers gain extra income, families have more sources of nutrition, and the entire community is motivated to nurture and protect these trees for the long term.
We're looking forward to seeing these trees grow and thrive. Please send well wishes to our team as they get busy at the nursery over the coming weeks - success now is important for the next planting season! Once a viable size, these are the trees that will be planted and distributed throughout Uganda's Busoga District next April, benefitting small farmers and vulnerable communities for decades to come.
In the meantime, your support matters. Donations or sharing our project can help bring these trees to life and food to the table in Uganda and beyond.
