My Learning Become My Family Best Earning
I am Asma of 18 years just eighth class level, I wanted to become a school teacher but my dream could not become true due to sudden my father death when just I entered in eighth class and it ended on eighth too. I am living in a remote and poor village some 7 kilometers away from city center. We are total 6 members in family headed by elder brother and he used to earn Rs.8000 per month hardly through unskilled laborer to feed the family and rest of all day to day petty expenses. Due to three small brothers my mother was unable to do any other economic activity to earn and support as she has to look after household chores and small brothers. We used to live in very miserable conditions. But I was always in search to learn any skill which permanently become better source of our income but it be socially and culturally do able as well, as in rural areas people do not like or allow girls specially orphan girls to have such job or business in which girls have direct interaction with male and boys. And luckily one day, Advocacy, Research, Training and Services (ARTS) Foundation team came to our village in the search of orphan girls to induct them for vocational skills (dress making / tailoring) training. Indeed, it was the luckiest and happiest day of my life when I heard that I can get admission free of cost for four moths dress making training. I managed to visit the center on very next day and submitted my application for admission. I maintained 98% attendance, secured second position in test and learned full dress-making within four months course. After completion of my successful training I set up my dress-making work by sparing one room of my house as a tailoring house. I am very happy to share that I am earning not less than Rs.10000 per month. It makes me and my family to live a fair life and my two small brothers are in school now. Finally, I will say that vocational skill learning boosted me as the best earner of my family – thank you ARTS Foundation and thank you the donors through GlobalGiving.
