I am not dependent due to dress making skill

By Huma Aslam | Project Leader

This is me Shani with 15 years, an orphan girl with education level five only. I am the only child of my mother and she is of age 49 years. When I was just 5 years my father left this world and due to me, my mother never thought to get re-married. Because, she though if she re-married then I will lose me. She tried hard for education but could not due to social taboos and the expenses of education. At the age of ten, I started working in the homes of well-off people living nearby my home. It’s not an easy job for a girl of age 10 to work like washing floor, cleaning dishes and dusting etc. I used to work in 5 homes from early morning and till to sunset. I could manage only rupees 1000 to 1200 only per month without any leave, if there is leave then amount been deducted, it’s the reason that that I have quoted 1000-1200. With my growing age, me and my mother were not happy to do this. So, I always wanted to learn any skill either beautician or dress making. Indeed, beautician work needs more money to set up but dress making do not so much. I have been in search of opportunity near to my home as well as free of cost too because my financial circumstances do not allow me to pay training fee. It was very fortunate day when Ms Ayesha a social activist who came in a home where I used to work and she shared there that ARTS Foundation is providing three months free of cost basic dress making training to orphan and needy girls. Believe me, in first instance I inquired about the address of ARTS Foundation and very next day I visited ARTS Vocational Training Center along my mother. I found very kind instructors and a good training place. I got the admission form and submitted it on fourth day after filling it. The classes formally started on 1st April 2022 and completed on 30th June 2022.

Three months dress making training given enhanced my skills and made me able to earn Rs.600-800/day which means 18000-24000 per month being at own home in decent way and sparing time with my mother as she is not feeling well now days. I am very secure and empowered now as I am doing my work at home and earning a handsome amount. I am saving some money for better living.

From my core of heart, I will remain very thankful to ARTS Foundation and the Philanthropists under GlobalGiving those made this possible for me to have free and quality learning with sufficient basic materials as needed for the course.
