Project Progress in Vietnam: Expansion!

Over the past few months, as part of our expansion efforts, the Vietnam Project has successfully extended the "Orphans into Loving Foster Families" initiative to Hue, with the program scheduled to run from 2024 to 2027. Hue has been strategically chosen as the pilot location, where the work conducted will serve as the model for similar initiatives across the nation.

Key activities so far include the continuation of recruitment efforts for foster families and the delivery of training workshops for government staff to further prepare them for their roles. These workshops have focused on family assessment and the preparation of family placements, equipping local stakeholders with the essential skills and knowledge needed to support this critical transition. Additionally, a workshop titled "Prioritizing Family Care for Every Child" was held in Hue, underscoring the importance of family-based care and engaging key stakeholders at both local and national levels.

Looking ahead, we believe the work we’re doing now is laying a strong foundation for continued success. Key stakeholders, from national to provincial levels, are well-informed about the project's strategy and core components, ensuring ongoing support and collaboration. A robust partnership has been established with the government, fostering close cooperation in the shift from residential to family care. Moreover, the identification of three potential foster families in Hue has provided a solid basis for the next phase of the project.

The progress made so far demonstrates a promising expansion of the "Orphans into Loving Foster Families" project in Hue, with significant groundwork laid for its successful implementation and the long-term goal of prioritizing family-based care for every child.

Progress in Vietnam: New Policy And Project Site

At Care for Children, our commitment to transforming the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children knows no bounds. We've been working tirelessly to see every child afforded the opportunity to grow up in a loving family.

At the end of last year and as a direct result of our work with them, the Vietnamese government approved a significant new policy that saw family-based care become the government’s preferred method of alternative care, as well as a mandate that states all children must be in family care by 2030!

Following this groundbreaking achievement, we are thrilled to announce that a potential new project site has been identified in Hue, central Vietnam. This new site represents a major milestone for us, as it will serve as a best-practice model for the development of family-based care.

The Hue project site will serve as a best-practice model for family care, building on innovative approaches and methodologies that have proven successful in other locations. Combined with the unique challenges Hue presents, this means our team have an opportunity to showcase the transformative power of family care, no matter the circumstances.

We believe that the enthusiastic support from local government authorities in Hue, combined with the significant need in the region, creates a unique opportunity for us to make a meaningful impact to develop family care in Vietnam. Vietnam Update: Looking Forward in 2024

After facing the challenges of Covid, our team in Vietnam are excited to move forward with a fresh approach. Our objectives for 2024 encompass a comprehensive approach aimed at initiating significant changes in Vietnam's care landscape. Primarily, we seek to foster a deeper understanding among high-level government officials about the paramount importance of family-based care for orphans and vulnerable children, such as long-term foster care. This involves equipping local authorities and frontline care/social workers in Vietnam with the necessary knowledge and skills related to the family placement process, empowering them to move children out of institutional care and into local families.

Furthermore, our efforts extend to practical training sessions and effective case consultations tailored for institution staff and social workers. These sessions aim to equip them with the expertise required to implement and oversee successful family placement initiatives. In line with this, we're actively engaging in targeted awareness raising campaigns to promote family-based care for orphans and vulnerable children, attract capable family carers, and ensure their thorough training.

Our commitment also involves overseeing and facilitating the placement of children into local nurturing families, a pivotal step towards ensuring their well-being and development within supportive family environments. Alongside this, we're dedicated to providing specialized training that equips family carers with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively care for children facing unique circumstances.

Our efforts will culminate in organizing a focused conference that brings together key stakeholders, fostering collaboration and advocacy for the cause of family care. This conference will serve as a platform to amplify awareness, share insights, and encourage collective action towards realizing our vision of a family-oriented care system in Vietnam.

Through these concerted efforts and strategic initiatives, we aim to lay the foundation for the transformative shift towards family-based care, ensuring that every child in Vietnam finds a nurturing, loving family environment conducive to their growth and well-being.
