Preparing for the big roll-out!

By James Paul | Senior Grant Writer

2021 is a big year for our Vietnam project. This year represents the final year of our pilot project, prior to rolling out the project nationwide.

Up until now we have been working with just two orphanages (social protection centres), introducing them to the concept of foster care and helping them to develop foster care programmes, whereby they will be able to move children out of the orphanage and into local foster families in local communities. We are delighted to report that they are almost ready to start this important process!

In 2022, the project will move into the national roll-out stage. During this stage we will roll-out our training to orphanages right across the country, offering a national solution to the problem of children growing up in oprhanages.

To prepare for this roll-out, later this year our team will deliver ‘introduction to foster care’ workshops to an additional four orphanages – one in each of four regions (North East, North West, Central and South). These workshops will be part of further piloting of the training materials to ensure adaptability in different regions of Vietnam. This training will be used to test the relevance and effectiveness of the training materials and training programme, providing opportunities to review language, refine definitions, and also collect new case studies to incorporate into the materials.

The COVID-19 epidemic has affirmed that children are better off in families, rather than in orphanages. If you would consider supporting us again in the future, we would be extremely appreciative. Thank you for staying connected to our work.
