Enable children with disabilities in Indian slums.

Through sports, games and sign language, OSCAR Foundation’s Enabling Change Programme creates safe, joyful spaces where children with hearing impairments build confidence and communication skills. Recently, we conducted audiogram assessments for 13 children. Many come from communities where access to hearing care is rare and acceptance of hearing aids remains a challenge.

Following testing, hearing aids were provided to children across three schools and rural communities, giving them the chance to hear more clearly, learn better and participate fully in life.

Taufiq, now 19, is hearing and speech impaired and grew up in a low-income family where opportunities were limited. When he joined OSCAR at 13, he was shy, withdrawn and lacked confidence. With the support of OSCAR, Taufiq also received a hearing aid, which has significantly improved his ability to recognise sounds, follow instructions and engage more confidently with coaches and peers. The football field became his space to belong.

Today, Taufiq is a young leader. He leads football sessions, supports coaches and inspires younger children. His journey from silence to leadership is a powerful reminder of what is possible when children are given the right support.
