Now four months into the year, I feel very proud of the team of Caregivers at Casa Hogar. Currently investing into 30 fantastic girls, boys and teens (5-18 years old), our Caregivers certainly have their plates very full.
Our Caregivers juggle a lot of activities with several changing variables. Recently we have had several departures (family reintegration) as well as new arrivals. Presently we are home to five special needs residents (intellectual deficit). One in particular, 10-year-old Lalo pocesses a very limited vocabulary and is learning basic hygiene and table habits. Through acceptance, patience and love he is learning. It is curious to see him pick up his food with his fingers and place it on his fork before raising it to his mouth. He is trying and seeking out affirmation from the Caregivers which is a great sign.
Last week local public school teachers went on strike so we are now conducting school from home. Our Caregivers sprang into action creating academic content and participating in off property activities to keep the kids and teens engaged and stimulated.
