One year after El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State in western Sudan, fell to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 26 October 2025, women and girls continued to live with the consequences of the violence. The takeover was accompanied by mass killings, sexual violence, and widespread displacement. Thousands of civilians fled toward Tawila and Jebel Marra region, including Golo in Central Darfur. Many had already been displaced several times, losing their homes, livelihoods, and access to essential services.
Survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) continued to face physical and psychological consequences, compounded by stigma, insecurity, and limited access to healthcare and protection services. In Golo, where displaced families sought refuge, basic necessities such as sanitary pads, soap, and personal care supplies remained difficult to obtain.
Through #WomenNotWeapons campaign, SIHA Network allocated USD 6,011 in donations received between March and October 2026 to support women and girls affected by violence and displacement in Golo, Central Darfur.Working with grassroots feminist organizations, SIHA supported the distribution of 200 dignity kits to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and women and girls with limited access to essential menstrual hygiene products.
The distribution took place during psychosocial support sessions implemented by SIHA through other funding sources. These sessions focused on addressing the psychological impact of violence and displacement and providing information on available protection and support services. While humanitarian responses often prioritize urgent needs such as food, shelter, and medical care, menstrual hygiene and personal care needs can receive less attention. For displaced women and girls, particularly survivors of sexual violence, limited access to these supplies creates additional challenges to their health, privacy, and dignity.
Your contributions to #WomenNotWeapons helped address this gap. Thank you for making this support possible. With continued contributions, SIHA Network can reach more women and girls and strengthen grassroots feminist initiatives responding to urgent needs across Darfur and other conflict-affected areas of Sudan.
