Project Summary

Since 2007, the ongoing blockade and escalating hostilities in the Gaza Strip have severely weakened the region’s health infrastructure. Particularly after 2014, intensified attacks rendered many health facilities inoperable, injured thousands of people, and significantly restricted access to basic healthcare services. In response to these growing needs, Yeryüzü Doktorlar focused its efforts on physical therapy and rehabilitation services, working to ensure the continuity of healthcare across different areas of Gaza.

In this context, the Khan Younis Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center was established in 2016 and remained operational until October 2023. The center provided essential support to individuals who suffered physical disabilities as a result of the conflict. However, as hostilities intensified once again, the facility itself became a target and was rendered unusable.

To ensure the continuation of healthcare services, Yeryüzü Doktorlar shifted its operations to mobile health teams. These teams delivered emergency medical care, treatment, follow-up services, and referrals directly in the field. In addition, various humanitarian assistance activities were implemented to address urgent needs, including the distribution of hot meals, food parcels, hygiene kits, and family support packages.

Despite escalating security risks and challenging field conditions, all these efforts were carried out with the aim of sustaining access to essential health services and meeting the humanitarian needs of the population in Gaza.

Achievements and Impact

Under the Gaza Program, extensive humanitarian assistance was delivered to tens of thousands of people between December 2025 and March 2026. In the health sector, a significant number of individuals received medical services at several key hospitals, including Al-Shifa, Indonesian, Al-Aqsa, European, Kuwait, Nasser, and Al-Ahli, with 3,100 beneficiaries reached in December and January, followed by 1,212 in February. Notably, in March 2026, medical services were specifically provided at Al-Shifa Hospital, reaching a total of 1,598 beneficiaries. Through Mobile Health Services, 208 people were assisted in December, while health stations provided care to 246 individuals in January, 334 in February, and 311 in March. In addition, healthcare support was provided to 448 people in December, 381 in January, 533 in February, and 387 in March through the Khan Yunis Health Center.

In terms of food and basic needs assistance, 13,500 people benefited from aid trucks arriving via Egypt in March, while 180 people received food packages during the same month. Hot meal distributions reached a vast number of beneficiaries, with 46,500 in December and January, increasing to 56,079 in February and 78,861 in March. Furthermore, essential supplies such as diapers were distributed to 100 individuals in December and 280 in February, while 1,250 people received food support in February.

Regarding water and sanitation support, water tankers provided clean water to 9,000 people in December, 5,000 in January, 3,000 in February, and 10,000 in March. Overall, these interventions demonstrate a comprehensive humanitarian response addressing the critical health, food, and water needs of vulnerable populations in Gaza.

Conclusion

Overall, the interventions implemented under the Gaza Program demonstrate a comprehensive and life-saving humanitarian response to the severe and protracted crisis in the region. Despite ongoing insecurity, damaged infrastructure, and logistical barriers, the program successfully ensured the continuity of essential health services, reaching a vast number of vulnerable individuals and addressing urgent needs related to healthcare, food security, and water access. Through the combined efforts of hospital-based and mobile health services, alongside emergency food and water assistance, Yeryüzü Doktorlar (Doctors Worldwide Türkiye) played a critical role in mitigating the humanitarian impact of the crisis. These efforts not only alleviated immediate suffering but also strengthened community resilience by maintaining access to vital services under extremely challenging conditions, highlighting the organization’s steadfast commitment to the region.
