Dear Reader,
This is Ebi (left). Thanks to people like you, she is safe and happy living with her husbird. But she was not always safe and loved. Last November, a park ranger in Fremont contacted us on the Palomacy phone line about a domestic pigeon who he found abandoned in a cardboard box. Her wings had been clipped and her body bound in twine. [We can’t fathom why anyone would do this to any creature.] Adrienne, her foster mom and rescuer (and phone line volunteer) named her Ebi because the orangey feathers on Ebi’s head reminded her of shrimp draped over a mound of rice (nigiri sushi)! Ebi is the sweetest girl in spite of her abuse, and she quickly found love with Coconut, a one-eyed homer. Together they became “Coconut Shrimp!” Under Adrienne’s care, Ebi has recovered but she is still under veterinary care for polyurea and polydipsia. With your support, we give birds like Ebi the care they need and deserve.
All together, Our flock makes a difference
This time last year, Elizabeth told you about our plans for 2024. Coming into 2025, our goal remains the same: To never turn a bird away. Elizabeth and Jill are helped every day to achieve this by our amazing volunteers, our network of fosters, pigeon-friendly shelters, and world-class, pigeon-loving avian veterinarians. Every day our flock - with your help - is rescuing and caring for birds, and advising the people who care about them. We respond to calls for help for immediate rescue needs; advise on FaceBook with health and rescue-related questions; transport injured birds to the vet; provide daily medications and specialized care to birds in rehab; keep track of all the birds in our care; interview foster and adoption candidates; write stories; take photographs and video; network on social media; research prospective aviary hosts; manage our finances; seek grant opportunities; send thank you notes!; commit to the regular care for all our flocks; and much more. Like each unique bird, each of us contributes in our own unique ways, and in this we are a thriving flock, ready to welcome birds and people.
SAVE THE DATE! – LittlexLittle – March 25-28, 2025
The annual GlobalGiving LittlexLittle campaign helps your dollars go further. This year, GlobalGiving has $125,000 in matching funds (50% up to $50 per donor); and two generous donors to Palomacy will also match 100% of donations, up to $6,000! Please save the date, check your email and social media on March 25th, and remember to donate (if you can) early! Stay tuned for more details.
2024 GlobalGiving in review
In 2024, you and others like you contributed $48,209 to Palomacy via GlobalGiving. An amazing 64% of this was in smaller donations ($10-25). And we are really excited that 112 new GlobalGiving donors (out of 237) joined us in 2024! In total, GlobalGiving donors supported more than two months of Palomacy's operations, and helped us care for more than 150 new birds coming into our care. Recurring donations accounted for about 20% of donations. Every donation is special, and these donations are unique because they provide assurance that we can keep going! and help us bring in new birds with greater confidence that we can do what’s right by them. [A recurring donation is easy to set up with GlobalGiving.]

I am grateful to everyone in our flock and to Elizabeth for giving me the opportunity to share our work with you here. And every day, we are grateful for people like you who choose to support our work and birdies like Ebi. This work is a labor of love; it is hard emotionally and physically -- and uniquely rewarding. When things feel rough, I remember all of you. You are our Shining Lights. Thank Coooo
