At our community library, we are committed to fostering new masculinities—ones that embrace emotional strength, connection, and personal growth. Through our "Bosque-Mar" program, we provide boys and young men with opportunities to engage with their natural heritage while developing a sense of responsibility for endangered marine species. As they surf and scuba dive, they not only enjoy adventure but also gain knowledge beyond what their artisanal fishing fathers have experienced, encouraging curiosity and innovation within their communities.
Additionally, our South-North program, an international volunteer exchange between Ecuador and Germany, creates spaces for intercultural dialogue. These discussions allow young participants to explore their own identities while learning about different perspectives, enriching their understanding of masculinity in a global context.
However, our commitment to fostering new masculinities is especially evident in moments of hardship. Recently, one of our boys experienced a tragic loss when his father was killed in gang violence. In response, his peers rallied around him, offering their support, solidarity, and love. This difficult moment became a powerful testament to the values we aim to instill—empathy, emotional expression, and resilience.
Our Swiss volunteer, Gregory, took this moment to reinforce these lessons, reminding all the boys of the strength found in expressing vulnerability. His words served as a powerful encouragement, affirming their courage in embracing new ways of being men—ones that go beyond outdated stereotypes and instead prioritize compassion, emotional intelligence, and community support.
With the support of our benefactors and donors, we continue to nurture these transformative experiences, shaping a generation of young men who will lead with heart, knowledge, and a deep respect for both their natural and human heritage.
