Summertime was very quiet this year. A lot of PaSch mentees and their families as well as mentors were on holidays. Like mentioned in our last report, during this summer unfortunately there were less volunteers interested in becoming a mentor. But from September on finally new mentors got in contact with us and we invited around 8 interested mentors. Some of them were able to take part on our obligatory workshop, which prepares new mentors for their new challenge becoming a mentor. It seems like our recruitment to find more volunteers was successful and also helpful to publish an article and distribute flyers in cafes, bars and organizations in our neighborhood.
We are happy to start a matching process again with our new mentors and families and kids waiting. So this means figuring out who has same interests or hobbies or which mentors and mentees live nearby or just fit together because they are similar in character. We are looking forward to accompany the new tandems on their first three meetings here at PaSch and from then on throughout their mentorship and we hope that they get to know each other as soon as possible. Sometimes it takes time until a mentee and mentor get to know each other. For example, one so called tandem we matched already before summertime, but they met each other the first time mid-September because of holiday time and both weren’t in Berlin at the same time. The girl was so happy and thankful to have her own mentor, that she drew a picture and wrote a letter to PaSch as a present and thanked PaSch for being there for kids and supporting them.
We also want to share with you one of the highlights in 2016. This was a 4 hours’ workshop only for the PaSch-mentees in a circus called CABUWAZI, where two coaches showed our mentees different artistic tricks and after practicing and preparing a show, the 12 mentees proudly presented a really nice performance to their mentors or parents. We were all thrilled by how talented the mentees were on the trapeze or walking on globes, doing diablo or on the trampoline. It was a nice afternoon and the kids were really happy and proud of themselves. Some of the mentees had the possibility to join the second year, because thanks to your donations, we were able to offer such a workshop the second time. Some new mentees and her mentors were able to take part this year and enjoyed it a lot. We hope that some of the kids are able to practice in the Circus after their School and even improve their talents.
What else is going to happen in the end of this year?
Well, besides the matching process, which will take some time, we also plan to visit a theatre for kids again in December as a Christmas excursion and thanks to your donations we can invite our PaSch mentors and their mentees.
In about two weeks, on 2th of December, our community center offers again our annual Christmas get together with all neighbors, friends and interested people. We will have hot punch on a fire place and a choir and also a wind quartet, who practice in our community center, will sing and play some festive music for us. We are looking forward to have a nice evening and start in Christmas season together.
PaSch says thank you for supporting our project so we can help the kids in our district! We wish you and your families a peaceful Christmas season and a happy New Year!
