Period Poverty: Help Keep a Girl in School for $10

By Joy O. Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We appreciate your interest and encouragement in this project. At this time, we have not yet received any donations, so activities have not started. Still, our team at Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research Ltd/Gte remains committed to preparing for when support begins. The need for this project continues to grow, as many girls in rural areas of Nigeria struggle each month due to lack of menstrual products.

Across several communities, girls are missing school for days every month because they have no safe way to manage their periods. Many still use rags, tissue, or leaves, which are uncomfortable and can cause infections. Some girls stay home out of shame, and with time, many drop out completely. The high cost of disposable pads and poor access in remote areas make this problem even worse.

This project aims to provide 3,000 schoolgirls with washable sanitary pads that can last up to two years. Each girl will receive three pads and a simple hygiene guide. The pads will be produced locally by trained women using safe materials. This not only helps the girls stay in school but also creates small income opportunities for women who make the pads.

Even though we have not started yet, we have identified schools and communities for the first phase of distribution. We have also spoken with women who will help with production and community volunteers who will assist with training and delivery once donations start coming in.

We are ready to begin as soon as funds are available. Every $10 you give will keep one girl in school, learning and growing with confidence instead of missing out because of her period. Your support can make this possible.

with regards,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
