Introducing PAWS

By Genny Richard | Project Assistant

We’d like to re-introduce you to our project! Globalteer’s Peru Dog Welfare Program is now “PAWS” – the Peru Animal Welfare Society! With our new name, we hope to garner more support both from abroad and within Peru.  And although we have a new name, our focus is still the same: Improving the overall welfare of the street dogs in Peru through our 4-part program – CNR (Capture Neuter Release), Vaccination, Education, and Adoption & Shelter Improvement.  So if you see the name PAWS here on GlobalGiving or across our social media platforms and wonder where we have gone, don’t worry! It’s still us! Just new and improved.

Additionally, we have set a new goal of procuring funding to purchase and outfit a Mobile Veterinary Clinic. Such a mobile clinic is necessary for reaching the stray dogs in the more rural areas of Cusco, as these areas are where most of the overpopulation within the cities stem from. In the communities in the outskirts of Cusco, there is no veterinary care available for the dogs, so even if the people living there wanted to spay and neuter their pets, they have no way of doing so (not to mention the dogs that do not have owners). Therefore, it is essential that we reach out to them. Having our own mobile clinic is essential!

For $8,000 we can purchase and customize a vehicle in Cusco to perfectly suit our needs to work with local veterinarians and reach as many dogs as possible on a weekly basis. So this is our new primary focus for fundraising. Once we have the vehicle up and running, the outreach and impact of PAWS will be felt immediately in Cusco.

Can you help us spread the word? We hope that you can! And be sure to check out and follow our new PAWS Facebook page!

Thank you, as always, for your continued and invaluable support!
