This has been an important year of growth and change for our Peruvian Hearts scholars. We are always inspired by how hard our girls work, day in and day out, to become leaders who work to make the world a better place. The opportunities we provide for our scholars is 100% thanks to the generously and commitment from our Peruvian Hearts family of supporters. Thank You!
Thilcia is in her final year of university in Cusco where she studies Law at University Andina. In the coming year, she will finish her coursework and is currently in the process of completing her required practicum/internship hours at a law firm in Cusco. Thilcia is particularly interested in practicing law in areas of social justice and women’s empowerment and wants to work to protect the rights of impoverished children and women who can’t afford typical legal services. Thilcia’s sister, Jhuvi, a PH alumni, graduated almost two years ago from medical school and is in her residency in a rural community outside of Cusco in the Sacred Valley.
In July, Aldeyny, (Aldy) finished her first semester at University Andina in Cusco where she studies Systems Engineering. As the first of her family to attend university, Aldy has taken advantage of the opportunity she has been given to attend college and has been working hard every day be successful in her classes. She finished her first semester with the highest grade point average of all our Peruvian Hearts scholars. Aldy has continued to keep her grades up during the second half of the school year and she will finish her second semester at the end of December. Aldy plans to use her career in Systems Engineering to help improve the education system in Peru through technology, specifically for the poorer communities at high elevations in the Andes near Cusco.
Yoselin, 22, one of our PH scholars in Lima, studies Communication Sciences at Pontificia Universidad La Catolica del Peru. She is in her second to last year of her undergraduate education and is particularly interested in working in communication for non-profit organizations. Yoselin is committed to the idea of using her career to make a difference in the world and was recently accepted to participate in an internship with the United Nations Foundation in Peru. Yoselin’s gratitude for her own education has inspired her to dedicate herself and her career to improving the lives of others. She has two younger sisters, Gloria and Yenifer, who are also Peruvian Hearts scholars and study both study Geological Engineering at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO and UNSAAC in Cusco, Peru, respectively.
Your generosity and dedication provides our scholars with the best education available and experiences that instill values of gratitude and paying it forward. This gives our girls the knowledge and confidence, not just to break the cycle of poverty, but to transform the world through compassionate help toward others. Your continued confidence in our scholars, gives them the motivation necessary to fight for their futures, overcome obstacles, and use the difficulties of their pasts to motivate and inform their futures.
