Thank you to each and every one of our generous donors and supporters for your ongoing investment in our young women in Peru. Your gift makes a significant difference in the lives of our scholars and your loyal support helps the young women in our program to know they have people around the world who believe in each of them and their dreams for a brighter future. The past year was productive for our scholars as we continued to grow our number of PH alumni and also seach for other deserving young women to bring into our program.
As we watched four of our PH scholars graduate from university in 2022 and begin their professional careers, we continued our recruitment and admissions process to find other potential candidates. Throughout the first 10 months of the year, we welcomed seven extraordinary and deserving young women into our Peruvian Hearts family. These new scholars have quickly made themselves an important part of our PH family in Cusco and will and will undoubtedly continue to blossom and accomplish their goals and dreams.
In February, Ruth and Jhima, who study Business Administration and Education respectively at the National University in Cusco, officially became PH scholars. In April, Lizbeth, who studies Psychology at the National University, was accepted into our program, and in October we welcomed four young women: Liz, Brenda, Zoraida and Lurdes, who study Education, Communication Sciences, Education and Psychology, respectively, all at the National University in Cusco. Each of our new scholars brings unique qualities, experiences, perspectives, and dreams into the PH family to share with the other young women in our program.
These seven young women are each at different stages of their university careers, however they all share a common goal of working hard to become the first of their families to graduate from university. Without a doubt, Ruth, Jhima, Lizbeth, Liz, Brenda, Zoraida, and Lurdes will transform their futures and that of their families, as they continue to grow into strong and independent young women who have the ambition and the desire to pay it forward and make a positive impact in the lives of others. We are pleased to welcome these seven ladies into our PH family and we’re excited to watch them flourish into the best versions of themselves as Peruvian Hearts scholars.
After years of hard work, unwavering dedication to their studies, and having exhibited great resiliency in overcoming obstacles that arose along the way, four Peruvian Hearts scholars successfully defended their theses and celebrated their long-awaited university graduation earlier this year. These four strong and independent young women: Gloria, Leydi, Erika, and Yenivel, have started the next chapters of their professional journeys, equipped with their university education and the confidence, professional demeanor, and desire to make a difference in the lives of others, that Peruvian Hearts helped to instill in them.
In May, PH scholar Gloria graduated from Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Geological Engineering. She accepted an opportunity to work for Newmont Mining in Cripple Creek, Colorado where she is learning a lot and acquiring valuable experience in the field. Gloria is currently helping to put her youngest sister through college in Lima.
In July, PH scholar Erika received her title from the National University in Cusco with a degree in Tourism. After graduating, she accepted an administrative position at a local travel agency where she is learning about the tourism industry and getting to experience various facets of her career first-hand. Erika is the eldest of eleven siblings and the first of her family to attend and graduate from university.
In October, PH scholar Leydi became the first of her family and the eighth PH scholar to graduate from university. She completed her studies with a degree in Tourism from the National University in Cusco, and similar to Erika, she was offered an opportunity to work at a local travel agency, where she learning every day and gaining valuable practice and knowledge in various areas within her field.
Our beloved PH scholar, Yenivel, became our ninth Peruvian Hearts scholar to graduate from University when she received her title in Business Administration from Andina University in Cusco in October. Yenivel accepted a position with the municipality of Anta where she is developing her abilities, acquiring new skills and absorbing a plethora of new information.
We are delighted to celebrate these four newest PH graduates and proud to applaud the resilient, courageous, and strong young women they have become. Now, these professionals take on a new role in Peruvian Hearts as alumni, mentors, and role models for our younger Peruvian Hearts scholars. We remain eager to watch Gloria, Erika, Leydi and Yenivel continue to grow as empowered women, and see the ways in which they pay it forward within society.
