Four New PH Scholars Welcomed into PH Family

By Danny Dodson | Executive Director

New PH scholars: Adriella, Medalid, Katy and Eyny.
New PH scholars: Adriella, Medalid, Katy and Eyny.

We are grateful to each of our supporters for their loyal generosity in supporting the education and empowerment of our Peruvian Hearts scholars. It is thanks to your steadfast dedication and investment in the young women we support in Peru that allows us to help enable this next generation of female leaders in Peru to grow and thrive.

While our current PH scholars continue to work hard to fulfill their dreams of graduating from university and becoming professionals who will go out and make a positive contribution to society, we are excited to welcome an additional four young women as Peruvian Hearts scholars: Adriella, Medalid, Katy, and Eyny. With the addition of these four new participants to Peruvian Hearts, we currently support a total of 37 girls in university in Peru and have 9 current PH Alumni (all currently employed), who make up our PH Alumni Association.

Adriella, who is from Cusco, and Medalid who is from a small Quechua community located above the town of Calca in the Sacred Valley, both study Psychology at the National University of San Antonio of Abad of Cusco (UNSAAC). Both Adriella and Medalid are currently working to complete their required internships at the Regional Hospital in Cusco. Once completed, both young women will then be permitted to begin the process of researching and writing their theses. Eyny, who comes from the town of Sequani, located several hours driving from Cusco, studies Biology at the National University in Cusco and is currently in her 5th semester of classes. She is passionate about and dedicated to her chosen field of study. Katy, who lives with her family in Izcuchaca, about 45 minutes driving from Cusco, is in her 3rd semester of university coursework at the National University where she studies Economics.

Each of these four young women were selected to be PH scholars based on their personal character, desire to use their education to “pay it forward,” dedication to academic excellence, and a commitment to participate in and contribute their talents to Peruvian Hearts. We are thrilled to welcome these deserving young women to our PH family and are excited to watch them grow and mature into confident leaders, great professionals, and even better people. It is again, thanks to the support of each of our supporters, that we can help girls like Adriella, Medalid, Eyny, and Katy. Your faith in our work and your confidence in our scholars, even from the other side of the globe, makes a profound difference in their lives and the lives of their families.
