As we approach the halfway mark of 2025, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude. It is thanks to your support and generosity that we have been able not only to sustain our efforts, but also to deepen our impact and expand the scope of our work in meaningful ways.
In early April, we were thrilled to welcome four new, promising scholars into the program: Alba (Chemical Engineering), Laleska (Education), Luz (Natural Science) and Milagros L. (Chemical Engineering). We are deeply grateful to you who enable us to support more scholars. Together, we are breaking cycles of poverty as we help to empower and invest in women leaders who will pay it forward within their communities.
Recently, PH Psychologist, Miriam, led a workshop on the topic of “Fear” with the PH Parents. Through various activities the parents learned to explore and acknowledge their fears, especially concerning their daughters, and learned how to confront those fears through communication, love, and respect. The monthly workshop Miriam offers is a space where the PH Parents can offer each other support and encouragement while receiving the opportunity to grow, for many of whom, it is the first such opportunity.
Thanks to your support, we are able to provide this opportunity for PH Parents to gather from far, some journeying for up to 10+ hours by foot and bus, to learn, laugh, and grow in this impactful three-hour workshop with Miriam. These workshops are a vital part of our mission at Peruvian Hearts: to overcome cycles of poverty through creating women leaders who will lead as positive change agents within their communities and country.
Since our last update, we celebrated the completion of a special project to improve the home of PH Scholar Milagros, and her family, bringing dignity and comfort to Milagros and her entire family and creating a healthier living environment. When Milagros joined Peruvian Hearts in 2024, we recognized that her family lacked basic necessities, including a properly ventilated kitchen, essential appliances, and accessible spaces for family members with limited mobility. Thanks to the leadership of PH Peru Lead, Edwin, and with the dedicated work of the contractor, Sergio, and several teams of PH Volunteers, we transformed what were rooms of adobe walls and dirt floors into a comfortable, clean and well-ventilated kitchen and spacious living room. We helped to furnish their home with a range, washing machine, and a refrigerator, bringing an increased sense of dignity and well-being for Milagros and her family.
Whether you’ve met the incredible scholars of Peruvian Hearts before or have never been to Peru, let us know if you are interested in visiting and we would be happy to help you plan a meaningful and memorable trip to Cusco, Peru.
Thank you for taking the time to read about what has been happening at Peruvian Hearts and for supporting us for over 20 years!
