We are so thankful to our many donors and supporters for their continued generosity. Without our loyal Peruvian Hearts family, the inspirational young scholars we support would not be able to take advantage of the life changing opportunities made available by the generosity of our donors such as a university education and the skills and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty. We continue to watch these young women grow and mature as they continue to become leaders and agents of change.
In our ongoing effort to educate and empower more deserving young women, we are excited to welcome our newest Peruvian Hearts scholar, Yoselin. At 19 years old, Yoselin is in her third semester of college studying Communication Sciences at San Antonio Abad University of Cusco, the most highly regarded university in Cusco. In addition to finishing her degree in Communication Sciences, Yoselin wants to specialize in business marketing and publicity. She has also expressed her aspirations to continue her education by studying law after she finishes her bachelor’s degree in order to help the many needy people who face injustice in Peru. We are thrilled to have another inspirational young woman such as Yoselin join Peruvian Hearts and are enthusiastic to watch her continue to accomplish her goals and dreams.
At just 12 years old and in her second year of secondary school, Maricielo is one of our youngest Peruvian Hearts scholars. She might look like a normal 12-year-old, however she is extraordinarily unique. This innocent looking girl happens to be a national karate champion for her age group. Maricielo is currently a blue belt in karate and will receive her brown belt next month. She has travelled all over Peru to compete in numerous national and international competitions. Her next competition is scheduled for September in Cusco in which she is the returning favorite to win. We are incredibly proud of Maricielo and her unwavering determination and work ethic. Given all of her achievements and successes at such a young age, it is obvious that this young woman will accomplish all of her goals and anything she puts her mind to.
Peruvian Hearts currently supports 31 scholars. Twenty three are enrolled at various universities and colleges (8 of the 23 are enrolled in the extremely competitive National University), two are preparing to take the entrance exam for the National University next week, and six are in secondary school determining what they want to study in university once they graduate. It is a very exciting time for Peruvian Hearts, as our first class of university scholars will finish their classes this year and begin their required internships in order to graduate. We continue to be inspired by their constant motivation and drive and want to wish them a successful final semester.
