Thank you to our loyal donors and the entire Peruvian Hearts family for your continued support. It is your significant generosity and gifts of love that enable us to grow as an organization and impact the lives of even more girls, their families, and communities in Peru. We are so blessed to have such giving supporters and we are grateful for each individual gift to help the girls.
In January we celebrated and officially welcomed six of our scholars into the Peruvian Hearts family through a meaningful initiation ceremony. Over the course of the last year, Rut Karina, Yoselin, Jessica, Helen, Kristel and Thilcia, have each demonstrated their personal academic drive and their unfaltering commitment to our program. It was a beautiful ceremony, which included poems written (specifically written for the event) and recited by PH scholar, Elba Luz, singing by PH scholar, Milagros, and Enrique, the father of PH scholars Helen and Frine, welcoming words from Maribel on behalf of the other PH scholars, and dancing by PH scholar Alexandra and her dance partner. It was a significant occasion for the six girls who were initiated and a touching ceremony for the attending guests, parents, and other PH scholars. We have set our expectations high for these six young women as we watch them develop into confident leaders and we know that each girl has the power within herself to break her cycle of poverty and transform the world.
We are excited to recognize Peruvian Hearts scholar, Maribel, who was recently admitted to study accounting in Lima at Universidad Pontifica de La Catolica, which many people consider to be the best university in Peru. Last year Maribel participated in an exchange semester at La Catolica in Lima and it opened her eyes to even bigger dreams and aspirations. Following her heart, she returned to Cusco after her exchange in Lima, determined to find a way to continue her studies in Lima. Without any help, she filed all of the necessary paperwork to begin the transfer process. After another entrance exam and an interview at La Catolica in Lima, Maribel was notified of her acceptance. Maribel joins Gloria (who studies mining engineering) as the only two PH scholars to study at La Catolica in Lima. The girls live together in an apartment near the university that is provided by Peruvian Hearts.
We have also had the recent pleasure to welcome many of our loyal donors to Peru and to give them the opportunity to spend time getting to know the PH scholars. It is such a joy to share with our visitors the inspirational dreams our girls have and their personal stories of perseverance and overcoming challenges they have faced growing up in poverty. These shared experiences have moved and touched the hearts and lives of both our visitors and the PH scholars. The PH girls love to share their feelings and stories with our visitors and our girls enjoy hearing from and learning about the lives and life experiences of our visitors as well.
