Program Description
The Aladina Foundation remains firmly committed to improving the quality of life for young cancer patients through its comprehensive Physical Exercise Program. Supervised by two Ph.D. specialists in Physical Activity and Health, the program offers personalized exercise sessions at four leading hospitals in Spain: Hospital Niño Jesús, Hospital Gregorio Marañón, Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid, and Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia. To ensure broader accessibility, remote online options are also available for patients and their families.
Since its launch in 2017, the program has expanded through the "Aladina Sports Scholarships," enabling both patients and their caregivers to participate in activities such as yoga, Pilates, and relaxation sessions at the specialized Tándem gym. Additionally, the Aladina Foundation actively collaborates in the pioneering research project "Physical Exercise During Cancer Treatment in Adolescents," which studies the impact of regular physical activity on the well-being and recovery of young oncology patients.
Program Impact
In 2024, the Physical Exercise Program delivered remarkable benefits:
293 young patients were supported through personalized exercise sessions.
1,621 physical exercise sessions were conducted across participating hospitals and online.
25 "Aladina Sports Scholarships" were awarded to patient-caregiver pairs, promoting holistic recovery.
The program has proven to significantly enhance the physical and emotional well-being of children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment, helping to alleviate side effects, rebuild muscle mass, and improve overall quality of life.
Results and Achievements
The continued growth and success of the program affirm its crucial role in pediatric cancer care. By providing tailored exercise routines, we have supported the recovery journey of hundreds of children, fostering resilience, strength, and optimism during an incredibly challenging time.
Future Initiatives
In 2025, the Aladina Foundation will embark on a transformative milestone: the establishment of Spain's first gym within a public hospital exclusively dedicated to pediatric cancer patients. Located at Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia, this state-of-the-art facility will feature 400 m² of indoor space and a 200 m² terrace, creating a safe, inspiring environment for therapeutic physical activity. A specialist in Physical Activity and Health, fully funded by Aladina, will oversee personalized programs for the young patients. With an estimated budget of €700,000, this project represents a groundbreaking step forward in integrating physical exercise as a cornerstone of pediatric oncology care.
Acknowledgments
The Aladina Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to all donors, partners, and supporters whose generosity makes these achievements possible. Your support enables us to transform lives, offering hope, strength, and a brighter future to children and adolescents facing cancer.
