Help Bolivian Children Living in Poverty

Dear Wonderful Supporters:

As we head into 2022, the Rosa Vera Fund is trying to implement telehealth visits when possible and when expedient. Rather than travel for hours each day to see specialists, we are meeting virtually for quick check-ins regarding medication refills, referrals, progress updates, etc. 

One of the greatest advantages is that these telehealth visits allow our doctors to discuss treatment options with each other - both our Bolivian medical professionals as well as our team located in the United States. These visits are efficient and are significantly less expensive in terms of both money and time.

So we are hopeful that this option remains viable for many of our chronic patients. Parents who used to have to take an entire day off of work to go to a doctor's appointment located two hours away will now be able to do so quickly in the comfort of La Escuelita - our school and therapy center - located in the middle of Montero, where our programs are located. 

Thank you to our supporters who allow us to not only keep the doors open but also to invest in a computer monitor and broadband sufficient for telehealth capabilities. Reliability is key - your donations help us to bring reliability and sustainability to our medical interventions for children with chronic health care needs, who have no other option for treatment.

Dear Supporters:

In spite of the challenges of the pandemic, the work of the Rosa Vera Fund continues........

One of our greatest strengths is our ability to respond quickly, nimbly, strategically, when hurdles arise. When all of Bolivia was on military-enforced lockdown, the families we work with were not able to leave their homes. We were able to get critical food supplies delivered by having our medical teams go door to door. Under our watch, NO child died from Covid, NO child (nor their siblings) suffered malnourishment or starvation, and ALL children continued to receive crucial medical care and physical & speech therapy. 

We are extremely humbled by the efforts of our Bolivian counterparts who do whatever it takes to help the families of the RVF.

And, in spite of all the uncertainty, the RVF expanded, as planned! We have added four new children to our census, ranging in ages from 19 months to 11 years. All were very appropriate cases for us to provide services to and their parents are incredibly grateful to have this opportunity to save their children lives or dramatically improve their quality of life.

And, there's even more good news: We have hired a new care coordinator - Lourdes Plata - who you will learn more about in the upcoming reports. She fills a crucial role in coordinating the dozens of medical visits, speech therapy sessions, physical therapy sessions, etc. that take place both at La Escuelita as well as on home visits. 

Overall, the Bolivian medical team is resilient and inspirational.  They seem to take the challenges all in stride and, due to your support, will continue to move forward.
