Dear Supporters:
When the pandemic hit, all of us involved with the Rosa Vera Fund thought, "How are we going to keep our supporters interested in our work? Who is going to care about kids in Bolivia, when there is so much happening here?" To our great relief (but not surprise!), by and large, our supporters stuck with us!
Down in Bolivia, doctors made weekly house calls. Social workers coordinated medical visits. Speech and physical therapists masked up and went from one patient's house to another, making sure kids made progress. Everyone pitched in when needed - delivering fresh fruit and veggies, groceries/staples, diapers, and medicines. We are proud to say that not one child got sick from Covid; not one child died during this time while under our care.
Here in the United States, our volunteer board continued to fundraise. Dr. LH held her yearly, eagerly-awaited desert BBQ attended by her family and friends. Several of our board members wrote grants and continued their annual appeal from colleagues. Dr. DM and Dr. LH did bi-monthly Skype medical checks on their patients and continued consulting with our Bolivian medical colleagues.
What's next? For now - a bit of a breather.......usually we have a medical trip to Bolivia in June, but this year that is postponed, possibly to the fall. Over the summer, we will gear up for more fundraising and will be posting a project on GlobalGiving.
Thanks for sticking with us during these uncertain times. On behalf of all the families we work with in Bolivia, thank you so much for recognizing that all children, no matter where they live in the world, are worth it. Because of your generosity, we can prepare and follow through with a treatment plan for each child we work with, with the goal of reaching the best outcome possible. Please know that your involvement truly does ease the lives of our fellow and less fortunate mothers, fathers and children. It is all worth it.
Sincerely,
The Board of the Rosa Vera Fund
