Dear Patrons,
We are very happy to thank you very much for all the support that you have provided so far for our Rwanda forestation project.
We are so excited to share with you the progress of sapling planting activities for the land five. We planted saplings at location Rwanda:7299+3WH (Google Plus code). This area’s name is Taba (colline Mwite). On Saturday, the 2ndof April 2022, we planted 850 saplings from 8 AM to 3PM, and this is the biggest land where we plan to plant 8,000.
We take this opportunity to thank students from Muyanza and Burega Primary school and their valuable and active participation in this forestation project. In this activity on the second day, the total of 26 students participated in the planting. RWAYDAVO Volunteers and project workers helped in digging holes deep enough to cover the tree's root-ball and to put the organic fertilizer. Then a student would remove the root-ball from the container and place the tree in the hole and RWAYDAVO leaders ensured that the activities happened as planned. We would like also to let you know the trees we planted; 700 were Grevillea and 150 were citrons.
During planting of the trees, three community leaders of Burega Sector participated in the event. I would like also to share that RWAYDAVO was given one hectare, where we will help in reforestation. There are old forests located in Rulindo district, Burega Sector, and Taba cell.
We are planning to start basic activities related to fencing that will help us to construct fences as soon as we have completed the tree planting. We will fence the land because we want to protect the land 5 in which the trees are planted from animals like goats, cows, and sheep, as well as from the disturbances caused by the humans. After all these activities we will do close follow up and maintenance.
To do this successfully, we will need ongoing funds for the regular maintenance of the saplings and the land. The maintenance will require maximum care and supervision to make sure that trees are growing well. This activity will also include pruning the area properly in order to keep the trees healthy and strong, Water is food for our trees and plants – that’s why effective watering is one of the most important ways to care and maintain, so watering might be needed during dry season. Watering for this land will be the most difficult thing as this land is in the middle of the hill. If we have enough funds, it could be necessary to maintain water during rainy season in Tanks and then use them during dry season. We will make sure that the soil is not compacted because the soil compaction prevents water and oxygen from infiltrating to the tree’s roots. We will be doing mulch about 6 inches from the base of the tree so that we cannot damage our trees roots.
We request you to donate generously for our project so that we can keep working and achieve our goals. You could also consider doing a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work. The link for the monthly recurring donation is mentioned below in the report.
We thank you for everything that you have done for our project, and we look forward for your continued support.
Thanks & Best Regards.
Jean Damascene UWIZEYIMANA
