Land Five Annual Report 2023

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patrons,

We are very happy to thank you very much for all the support that you have provided so far for our Rwanda forestation project.
We are so excited to share with you the annual report of land 5 showing how trees are growing well ( see attached photos). We planted saplings at location Rwanda:7299+2X5. (Google Plus code). This area’s name is Taba cell, Colline Mwite village in Rulindo district of Burega sector, Rwanda. we planted a total of more than 10,000 saplings in 1.5 hectares. I would like also to let you know the trees we planted; 90% are Eucalyptus and 8% are Grevillea and 2 are indigenous trees). At the edge of Land 5, we have planted grevillea.
We take this opportunity to thank students from Muyanza Primary school, Burega primary school, and Karambo primary school and their valuable and active participation in this forestation project. In this activity, During the planting of trees , more than 100 primary school students have participated in tree planting activities and around 30 people in the community around the forest have participated. 35 RWAYDAVO Volunteers and 28 project workers helped in digging holes deep enough to cover the tree's root ball and to put the organic fertilizer.

Maintaining a eucalyptus plantation involves several key practices to ensure the health and productivity of the trees. Here are some general guidelines for the maintenance of eucalyptus trees planted in one year:
Mulching: We will be doing mulch about 6 inches from the base of your tree so that we cannot damage the roots of our trees. We do mulching by applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of the trees to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Mulching also contributes to the improvement of soil structure and fertility.
Weed Control: RWAYDAVO keeps the area around the trees free from weeds, as they can compete for nutrients and water. Mulching helps control weeds, but occasional manual weeding is necessary.
Pruning: RWAYDAVO volunteers prune eucalyptus trees as needed to shape them and remove dead or diseased branches. Early pruning helps establish a strong scaffold structure for the tree.
Disease Management: RWAYDAVO Monitor for pests and diseases regularly. Common pests for eucalyptus include psyllids and gall-forming insects. We address any pest or disease issues promptly with appropriate control measures.
Monitoring Growth: RWAYDAVO does regular monitoring the growth and overall health of the trees. We keep an eye out for any signs of stress, nutrient deficiencies, or abnormal growth patterns.

For fencing Land 5, we are still waiting enough funds to do the activities. The detailed report will be shared. We will be using fencing the land because we want to protect the land in which the trees are planted from animals like goats, cows, and sheep, as well as from the disturbances caused by humans. After all these activities we will do maintenance to make sure our trees planted are growing well. We need ongoing funds for the regular maintenance of the saplings and the land. The maintenance will require maximum care and supervision to make sure that trees are growing well.
We request you to donate generously to our project so that we can keep working and achieve our goals. You could also consider doing a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work. The link for the monthly recurring donation is mentioned below in the report.

We thank you for everything that you have done for our project, and we look forward to your continued support.

Thanks and Best Regards.
Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
RWAYDAVO President
