Report on Sapling Plantation

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patrons,

It is our honor and pleasure to have you as partners, supporters and donors. On behalf of Rwandan Youth Development and Voluntary Organization, I am very happy to take this opportunity to thank you very much for all the support that you have provided so far for our Rwanda forestation project and to give you the updates about how our trees planted in Land 7. On Saturday, 10th February 2024, we have planted more than 5000 saplings of Eucaryptus in Land 7. We planted saplings at location Rwanda: Lat -1.748808o Long30.058557o

Plantation Details:

On February 10, 2024, a sapling plantation initiative was undertaken in a designated area with the aim of increasing green cover and fostering biodiversity. A total of more than 5000 saplings of Eucalyptus were planted in Butangamundu hill, Burega Sector.

Unexpected Sun Exposure:

Unfortunately, unforeseen weather conditions significantly impacted the planted saplings. For seven consecutive days following the plantation, the area experienced an unexpected surge in sunlight intensity. This prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight proved detrimental to the delicate saplings, resulting in stress and ultimately causing the death of 15% of the planted saplings but are 85% are very okay see attached photo. We are planning to replace them in April, this month is the month we expect a heavy rain in Rwanda.

Mitigation Strategies:

In light of this setback, several mitigation strategies are being considered to prevent similar losses in future plantation endeavors. These include:

  1. Adjustment of Planting Schedule: Careful consideration of weather forecasts and seasonal patterns to schedule future plantation activities during favorable conditions.
  2. Watering Regimen: where applicable, we will ensure adequate watering and irrigation practices to mitigate the effects of drought stress on newly planted saplings.

To keep our project activities such as tree planting of new lands, maintains of planted saplings, replacement of dead saplings and preparation of new saplings, we request you to donate generously for our project so that we can keep working and achieve our goals. You could also consider doing a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work. The link for the monthly recurring donation is mentioned below in the report.

We thank you for everything that you have done for our project, and we look forward for your continued support.

Thanks and Best Regards.

Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
