Report on Vetiver Growth in Burega Sector

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patrons

We are so happy to thank you very much for all the support that you have provided so far for our Rwanda forestation project.

We wish to share with you the update on 200 vetiver planted for the first round. As you may know , Vetiver is a perennial grass known for its deep-rooting system and various ecological benefits, including soil erosion control, moisture retention, and biodiversity promotion. Currently vetiver is disappearing and we aim to restore them and distribute in the community. In Burega Sector, recent efforts have been made to introduce vetiver as a means of environmental conservation and sustainable land management. This report aims to assess the growth and viability of vetiver plantations in Burega Sector and provide insights into their performance ( See attached photos).

Methodology:

1. Field visits were conducted to vetiver plantation sites in Burega Sector.
2. Visual inspection and measurements were carried out to evaluate the growth parameters, including height, density, and overall health of the vetiver plants.
3. Interviews were conducted with local farmers to gather qualitative data on the plantation's progress and challenges faced.

Results:

Healthy Growth: The vetiver plants in Burega Sector are exhibiting vigorous growth, with an average height increase of 40-50 centimeters since planting.
Community Engagement: Local farmers have shown keen interest in vetiver cultivation and have actively participated in plantation activities, indicating a positive reception and potential for widespread adoption.
Challenges: While overall growth is promising, challenges such as to get enough funds so that we can plant 10,000 vetiver is still a big challenge.

Conclusion:

The initial assessment of vetiver growth in Burega Sector is highly promising, with the plants exhibiting healthy development and community involvement. However, ongoing monitoring and support are essential to address challenges and maximize the ecological benefits of vetiver cultivation in the region. We request you to donate generously to our project so that we can keep working and achieve our goals. You could also consider doing a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work.

We thank you for everything that you have done for our project, and we look forward to your continued support.

Thanks and Best Regards.
