Progress Update on Tree Planting Project in Land 7

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Esteemed Donors,

I am pleased to share an update on the reforestation project in Land 7, located in the Butangamundu Hill area of the Burega Sector, Rulindo District, Northern Rwanda. We successfully completed the planting of trees in May 2024, with a total of over 5,000 Eucalyptus saplings planted. These trees are growing well, as you can see in the attached photos.

Project Overview:

This initiative is part of RWAYDAVO's broader effort to enhance reforestation in the Butangamundu Hill area, contributing to local biodiversity, soil stabilization, and improved environmental conditions for the surrounding communities. The project was strategically designed to address the environmental challenges in this region by improving soil fertility and providing long-term environmental and economic benefits. Eucalyptus trees were chosen for their rapid growth and suitability to the local climate.

The project area, Land 7, is located at the following coordinates:
Latitude: -1.748808°
Longitude: 30.058557°

Current Activities:

To overcome  challenges and ensure the long-term success of the project, we are implemented a series of corrective measures and ongoing activities:

  • Regular Inspections: We are conducting frequent monitoring to track the health and growth of the saplings.
  • Soil and Water Management: Continued efforts in soil rehabilitation and water conservation practices, including the restoration of terracing, are in place.
  • Community Engagement: Local communities are being actively involved in the project, with educational initiatives focused on sustainable forestry practices.

We remain committed to the project's success and to achieving the environmental and community goals set out at its inception.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we are making a meaningful impact on the environment and the local community.

Kind regards,
Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
President, RWAYDAVO
