In June 2025, Habitat & Education Promotion led a tree-planting initiative across 24 elementary schools in Togo, successfully planting 760 fruit trees—including mango and orange varieties—to promote environmental education and food security. Students, teachers, and volunteers took part in hands-on activities that strengthened their understanding of sustainability, climate action, and the importance of caring for the earth. Each school received 20 to 40 trees, with students playing an active role in planting and caretaking—helping cultivate a long-term sense of ownership and responsibility.
Since our last update, we returned to Akpato School to plant additional orange trees, ensuring the school has the fruit varieties needed for both nutrition and learning. With this final activity, we officially conclude our 2025 school planting season, reaching over 800 fruit trees planted across 24 schools and bringing our overall total to 9,000 trees planted since the start of this program.
The impact continues to grow. Schoolyards are becoming greener, students are more engaged, and communities surrounding these schools are increasingly requesting to join the initiative.
Looking ahead, we are entering a major expansion phase.
Through strong partnerships with the participating schools, we have secured over 50 hectares of land dedicated to reforestation and agroforestry. Beginning in 2026, these sites will host a diverse mix of species including:
Gmelina arborea
Terminalia superba
Elaeis guineensis
Citrus limon
Anacardium occidentale
Citrus sinensis
Mangifera indica
Persea americana
Annona muricata
Psidium guajava
Cocos nucifera
Khaya senegalensis
Khaya grandifoliola
Tectona grandis
Even more exciting, we are pleased to announce that six new schools will join our program starting January 1, 2026, expanding our reach and deepening our impact.
With this growth, our target for 2026 is ambitious and inspiring: planting 50,000 new trees.
We are grateful for your continued support, which makes all of this possible. Please see a few photos of the trees planted this year—they are growing strong, cared for daily by the students who proudly helped plant them.
Together, we are building greener schools, healthier communities, and a sustainable future for hundreds of young learners.
