Our Tree Planting work ultimnately focuses on social empowerment and long term paradigm change from loggers who cut trees down to communities full of people who plant and defend their trees which provide for a long term sustainable livelihood.
How do we accomplish a real utopian tree planting model? We start with fair pay for all labor from working in the tree nurserie3s to transporting and planting and maintaining the trees for a total of 25 years. The majority of the labor money is invested the first four years. And from there, it is critical that we create and demonstrate the ability to add value to fruit harvests.
Chocolate making workshops are our favorite opportunity to get together and collaborate with cocoa chefs like Julieta and Jay from Mama Cocoa Chocolate. They also donate time and energy to work with small communities to empower them to enter and thrive in the artesanal chocolate industry. From drying to fermentation, to toasting and winnowing, we practice all these foundational aspects to make a really fine bar. We are learniong two new recipes this month and ever look forward to creating more fabulopus chocolate treats for sale in the local community.
