Plant Tree: Save Pakistan

By Yaqoob Masih | Project Leader

1. Introduction

As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being, Joy Foundation Pakistan launched the “Plant Tree: Save Pakistan” campaign. This initiative aims to combat deforestation, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and promote environmental awareness through large-scale tree plantation activities involving schools, local communities, and relevant authorities.

2. Objectives

The primary objectives of the “Plant Tree: Save Pakistan” campaign were:

  • To plant a minimum of 50 trees in key regions across Pakistan
  • To raise environmental awareness among youth and local communities
  • To reduce the carbon footprint and increase green cover
  • To encourage civic responsibility and active community participation

3. Activities Undertaken

3.1 Tree Plantation Drives

Tree plantation events were organized in District Toba Tek Singh, including surrounding villages.

Native and climate-resilient tree species were selected, including Neem, Kikar, Sheesham, Gulmohar, Moringa, and various fruit-bearing trees.

Collaboration with schools, colleges, local government bodies, and volunteers ensured broad community engagement and impact.

3.2 Awareness Sessions

Two (2) awareness sessions were conducted in schools and communities to highlight the importance of afforestation and environmental protection.

Eco-friendly brochures and plantation guides were distributed among students and local farmers to promote sustainable practices.

4. Key Achievements

Total Trees Planted: 1,500 plants

Regions Covered: District Toba Tek Singh, Punjab, Pakistan

Community Participation: Over 50 volunteers, including students, teachers, civil society members, and farmers

Partnerships: Collaboration with teachers and students of Joy Foundation schools

5. Challenges Faced

Water scarcity in some plantation areas created the need for sustainable irrigation and watering systems.

Limited environmental awareness in rural communities was addressed through door-to-door campaigns and engagement with local influencers.

Monitoring and maintenance of planted trees remain an ongoing challenge and require continued community involvement and support.
