At its core, Fútbol Sin Fronteras (FSF) has always been about creating spaces where girls in Granada feel safe, supported, and inspired to dream big. That mission continues—through the same trusted coaches, the same focus on education and leadership, and the same belief that sport can be a powerful force for building equity and belonging.
This past quarter, developments within the global regulatory environment prompted us to thoughtfully adjust how support for FSF is structured. While these behind-the-scenes changes have affected some administrative processes, they have not altered the core of what FSF is or the impact it creates.
Today, FSF continues as a locally led initiative that is supported by donors from all over the world who will continue to provide essential resources so experienced leaders and coaches can continue to deliver programming in Granada.
Thanks to the continued support of individuals, like you, who believe in this mission, we are working to ensure that FSF can continue to serve girls across Nicaragua with care and consistency—carrying forward a legacy of trust, joy, and transformation, even in the face of reduced capacity and heightened need.
Through it all, the spirit of FSF shines on. Here are some recent moments that reflect the power of sport, community, and connection in action:
Back-to-School Support
Earlier this year, FSF kicked off the academic term by distributing school supplies to girls enrolled in its secondary education scholarship program. This effort helped ensure that each participant had the materials she needed to return to school with confidence, reinforcing FSF’s longstanding commitment to education access and holistic support. For many families in Granada, the cost of notebooks, pens, and uniforms can be a barrier to consistent school attendance. FSF’s ongoing material support not only reduces financial strain on families, but also communicates to each girl that her education matters.
Celebrating Friendship Through Creativity
Around Día del Amor y la Amistad (Valentine’s Day), younger participants at FSF gathered for a special activity centered on friendship and appreciation. The girls expressed their affection by creating heart-shaped dedications for loved ones—an opportunity to strengthen emotional expression and community connection in a joyful setting. These simple, heartfelt moments contribute to the supportive team culture FSF works to cultivate every day.
Honoring Women's History Month
In March, FSF wove together fútbol and reflection to celebrate both its anniversary month and International Women’s Day. Participants engaged in drawing activities and conversations highlighting the legacy of courageous women who have paved the way toward greater equity. Some explored stories of women leaders in their own communities, deepening their understanding of local history and inspiring conversations about future goals. The celebration emphasized FSF’s role in cultivating empowered girls and future changemakers.
Representing with Pride
Several primary school–aged participants proudly represented their schools at the departmental girls' school games in Granada. It was a day full of excitement and opportunity, where the girls showcased skills learned through FSF and gained valuable experience on the field. For many, it was their first time playing in an official event outside their immediate program—an empowering chance to shine publicly and take pride in their hard work. The event was a reminder of the confidence and visibility that sport can bring to young girls.
Summer League Kickoff
In March, FSF launched its Summer League, Liga de Verano Cocibolca, with a vibrant opening weekend filled with energy and community support. Family members and friends turned out to cheer on the girls, who demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and joy on the field. The league offers not just playtime, but an environment where girls continue developing both soccer and life skills. For participants, it’s a highlight of the year—an extended opportunity to play competitively in a setting that emphasizes growth, sportsmanship, and sisterhood.
A Day to Recognize Hard Work
On International Workers’ Day, FSF shared a special musical tribute created by U12 participants—showcasing not only their creativity on the field but their talents beyond it. The video honored the dignity of labor and celebrated the families and community members who make FSF’s mission possible through their daily efforts. For the girls involved, it was a chance to connect their own experiences with broader themes of work, responsibility, and gratitude.
