Who’d have thought that watching a movie together would have so many benefits for our mental health and emotional wellbeing. Studies show that watching movies help not just to allow us to escape our own lives for a short while, but are proven to
And that is exactly what 30 young people supported by Teens Unite, along with some of their family and friends, did to round off an amazing year, as they joined us for our Christmas Film Screening.
We headed to the Cinema Bar at the Karma Sanctum Hotel in the heart of London’s Soho. This incredible hotel is home to music inspired decorations which include rotating artwork and surprising sculptures, a visit to the venue an experience in itself.
In true Teens Unite style, we started off the afternoon with some Christmas themed games which gave everyone the chance to get to know one another better, starting to build relationships which promote a sense of safety, belonging and security.
Armed with a selection of sweets from our pick 'n' mix station, everyone took their seats and relaxed, ready to watch the greatest Christmas movie of all time.... Home Alone! The movie infused with frivolous merriment, sentimentality, music, and snow, embodying many of the principles of Christmas as we know it, mostly that of family.
And with our Teens Unite family, as we watched and enjoyed our sweet treats, we played a game of Home Alone bingo, which got very competitive to say the least!
To end the afternoon, we took some time to relax together, chatting and laughing amongst new friends and reconnecting with others we had met through the year.
As our guests left the venue they were able to enjoy the now iconic Soho kids Christmas light display – the pavements lit up with designs from local school children, created to be very true to their original drawings – a further little spike of dopamine as they headed home for their own Christmas celebrations.
This was the perfect event to end the year, and we can't wait to see everyone again in 2024! To everyone who has funded this project we offer a HUGE thank you and wish you all a new year filled with health and happiness.
