You are receiving this Project Report since you are a current supporter of the MindLeaps GlobalGiving Program: “Post-Ebola Guinea: Educate & Empower The Youth”.
Reaching New Youth
Following the Ebola crisis, MindLeaps has concentrated on ensuring the most vulnerable youth receive the services they need to stabilize and rebuild their lives. We wanted to share with you the story of a typical child, Idrissa, who is able to rebuild his life because of the support you are providing to MindLeaps in Guinea.
The Story of Idrissa
Idrissa is 14 years old. He comes from a family of eight children (partially due to the practice of polygamy in Guinea). His father is a tailor, and his mother died. He ended up on the street along with his father and his brothers. Now, Idrissa and six of his siblings are all in the MindLeaps program.
Idrissa tried three times to go to primary school, but eventually had to abandon his studies. He started to occupy his time dancing with a street group called "Black Unite".
He was motivated by the offering of dance classes to join our program along with his friends, and now they refuse to leave MindLeaps. Idrissa discovered English for the first time and attends the languages classes regularly.
When asked about MindLeaps, Idrissa says, "It’s only because of dance that I came to the center with my friends. Since there were English lessons too, I decided it would be good to learn some phrases like ‘what is your name ?’ and be able to stand up and introduce myself in another language. I started to like the English courses. Here too, there is food. Before this program, I usually ate once every two days. Now, I come to the center and eat four times per week…I see a future for myself, and English will help me communicate it to others."
Thank you for allowing children like Idrissa to rebuild their lives!
