Each quarter. we report on one of the young village women whose postsecondary education/training scholarships we support, thanks to your generous donations. We are proud to highlight Awa, a very promising future midwife.
My name is Awa. I am 23 years old and I am a first year student in midwifery at the National School of Public Health in Ouahigouya, Burkina Faso.
My village is in the department of Thiou in northern Burkina Faso. I have one brother and six sisters. Since primary school, my brother has been the sole support of our family since our father has been sick and bed ridden for many years. My brother told me to do everything I could to complete secondary school and find a job and help him support our family as he cannot do it alone.
After secondary school, I applied for and received from Global NEEED Burkina a scholarship for the three-year midwifery training program. I am beyond grateful and I will do my very best to merit this opportunity which has been given me.
Once I complete my training, I will not only be able to help my brother support our family but more importantly, I will be able to help pregnant women and newborn babies in health centers. From the bottom of my heart, I thank Global NEEED Burkina and its partner, Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund, for enabling me to have a future and more importantly a crucial role in helping to improve the health of mothers and young children.
Our sincere thanks for your generous support which contributes to: the training of essential health workers, to the health of village women who depend upon these health workers, and to the families of the students/trainees who depend upon them for support.
