Scholarships to Train Rural Midwives

Ramata dreams of serving rural women and children

My name is Ramata. I have long dreamed of becoming a midwife but my family could never pay for my training. My parents are subsistence farmers. Thanks to Global NEEED and its partners (Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund and GlobalGiving), I received a training scholarship and am enrolled in midwifery training at the National School of Public Health in Ouahigouya. We are completing our first year of classroom studies and I look forward to the next two years of practical training. Following my training, I look forward to serving rural indigent women and children. (Here at school, I also have the opportunity to play my favorite sport, handball, once a week with my classmates.)

I want to express my profound gratitude to Global NEEED, Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund and GlobalGiving donors for your support and for all you do to help vulnerable youth in our region. You have given me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I will always do my very best to merit your support.

We're proud of the recipients of Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund(BFGEF) scholarships of the 2020/2023 class of midwives. All of them recently completed their training and were honored by the Ministry of Health and the National School of Public Health for their success. The newly graduated midwives expressed their sincere gratitude to Global NEEED, BFGEF and GlobalGiving for our support for their training, and they extended invitations to visit them at their future work sites when possible
