Her Dream Became Her Reality

Benedicte, her dream is to become a midwife

Meet Benedicte, one of our amazing scholarship recipients in her second year of midwifery training at the National School of Public Health in Ouahigouya. Her story: I have always dreamed of becoming a midwife. I have always admired midwives who help to bring about life and who care for the health of mothers and infants. But my dream always seemed far beyond my reach because my parents could not in any way help pay for my training.

In secondary school, I poured over my lessons in biology in the hope that one day I would find a way to achieve my midwifery training. One day, I heard on the radio that Global NEEED Burkina and the Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund were offering scholarships for midwifery training to young women with a passion for the health of mothers and children. I spent hours preparing my application, explaining why midwifery was more than a vocation for me, that it was my mission in life.

When I learned that I had received one of the scholarships, my heart burst and my tears ran down my face with intense emotion, relief and appreciation. With my scholarship, I would be able to realize my dream and my passion and be able to give hope to other young girls who, like me, thought such opportunities were impossible.

I look forward to finishing my training and working with mothers with all the care and love that I’ve always dreamed of giving.

I thank with all my heart Global NEEED Burkina and Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund who have offered me a chance to accomplish my life dream.
